Lexington Custom Home

Completed in spring 2008, this house was designed by a Swedish architect to be a contemporary version of the Victorian Colonial style. He created a distinctively open floor plan that welcomes abundant natural light and exterior spaces that are an inviting extension of the interior.

The formal areas and the master bedroom have the benefit of southern exposure, which maximizes the light and warmth of the sun. There is an easy flow from room to room and from inside to out, accommodated in part by an outside staircase. There is also a pergola in the front.

All three floors in the 5500 square foot home are open to the main foyer, with the upper floors incorporating a structural bridge design. The home features four bedrooms on the second floor and an au pair suite on the third floor. All the bedrooms have immediate access to a bathroom, making each like a master bedroom.

The first floor has 10-foot ceilings and a number of open yet intimate spaces surrounding a central designer kitchen. The kitchen’s lighting configuration was designed by the lighting designer for the television show, “This Old House.”

Other special touches found around the home include crown molding, both an inside and an outside fireplace, a large laundry room, and a full height unfinished basement that could be easily set up as a game room.
